Your wife crying made me broken into pieces on the scene when Daisy got killed 😢 Actually it was me when I watched that scene for the first time 💔 One of my favourite lines of this masterpiece: "John is a man of focus, commitment, sheer will - something you know a very little about" Like he was describing what kind of a force he is and you messed such force

Good Evening. Although set in Maine, the prison used was the Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio. The large main building and Cell Block 1 are now a Museum. They offer tours, can be used for special occasions, and offer overnight cell accommodations for the brave. ( haunted ) The street scenes were primarily N. Main St where the shop owners agreed to have their stores redone to fit the time period. Many still look the same. The halfway house is the Bis sman Building, and still looks the same today. The store was the E and B Market on 4th Street which has been torn down. I was fortunate to be an extra con in the yard scenes. The premiere was held at Mansfield's Renaissance Theatre, a restored 1929 movie palace, before New York and Los Angeles.. I also volunteered working the restoration. The prison was also used in the movie "Tango & Cash", and was the Russian cell block in "Airforce One". An interesting side note: In the bad winters, crows from 7 or 8 counties move into Mansfield by the hundreds due to large granaries between town and the prison. Brook's crow was a natural. I am 75 now with Parkinson's and don't get to attend movies. I enjoy the reaction videos on UA-cam.

Lots of interpersonal drama was added to the screenplay to spice up the story. In reality, Jack Swigart was considered to be as competent as anyone else - he even authored procedures manuals for the command module. I wondered how the story would have gone, were he still alive. [The movie "Sully" also dramatized the NTSB investigation, after the "Miracle On the Hudson"] And many of the improvised "fixes" on the mission had already been considered by NASA as possibilities, albeit improbable to ever be needed. But, still great storytelling !

If I was president during this film, I would have given so much money to NASA. I would have told them we need over a dozen space shuttles operating and ready to fly out at any time.

Holy crap, you are the first one who said what I had always thought every time I watched this movie, about Ken wanting the exact conditions. It never made any sense to me. The last thing you want is to be in those conditions. You want to be fresh. You need to see everything. If you must, put some orange tape on the flashlights, so you know they can't be utilized for re-entry purposes.

This movie was extra special for me, because the first time I watched it many years ago, I thought that they did die during this mission. I knew that there was an incident where astronauts died during the Apollo program, and I wrongly assumed it was this mission. I apparently missed the part in the beginning when they talked about the early Apollo mission where they died. It just never sunk in when they mentioned it. And so the fact that they were taking so long to regain radio contact at the end of the movie, I was expecting it. I was still blubbering like a little girl at the time. And then suddenly they show the chutes open and you hear "Lovell" talking on the radio, I was simply stunned. I went instantly from tears of sadness to tears of joy, which is usually the best type of emotions to go thru, because you traverse the range of emotions from one extreme to the next. It was so awesome.

This is absolutely one of my most favorite movies - not only because it is such a good story, but because it's very scientifically accurate. (Not that I could fact check most of it, but the author initially self published and used the scientific community as a resource to get details right. While there are some incorrect bits, they are few and far between.) The humor also helped keep the movie from being unbearably tense.

Noriko might have been infected with G-cells (black mark on her neck) and survived the blast because of its regenerative power. Godzilla Minus One (2023) won 8 Japanese Academy Awards (including Best Picture) and 1 US Academy Award (for Best Visual Effects). Suggestion. Watch Shin Godzilla (2016). The movie highlighted the (government’s) bureaucratic failures in dealing with the triple disasters (earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear reactor meltdown) in 2011. Shin Godzilla (2016) won 7 Japanese Academy Awards (including Best Picture and Best Director).

The bracelet the lady has mentioned on a couple of occasions is the equivalent to a dog tag.British families bought their loved ones them when they were called up (they would also be seen by some as a lucky charm). I don't know if other service men from the Commonwealth or other allied countries had them,it would be interesting to find out.

My uncle was in Okinawa in 1945. He was awarded the Silver Star for valor. My aunt told me his story because he would never talk about it. He would never show it to us. It stayed in the top of the closet. He was not proud of it. He came back a changed man. A broken man. This movie made me understand, maybe, just a little bit.

Only the tip of this Shinden fighter plane is on display at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. If you assemble it you'll have the whole thing. I think the motorcycle is a 1937 Z97 hand-change model made by Meguro Seisakusho, or perhaps a Rikuo, which was produced under license by Harley-Davidson before the war. Sorry for my poor English.

The study of the First World War is a fascinating one, simply due to how devoid that entire conflict was of any genuine purpose. It never had to happen. It took everyone by surprise. It got so bloody so fast that neither side could disengage without victory. It was just a human tragedy beyond reckoning. So many lives destroyed for no reason. The suffering on the Western Front in particular, can't be overstated. Even in the LONG periods where battle was completely absent, death was commonplace due to disease and any number of accidents. People give the French a lot of guff these days for surrendering so quickly when Hitler attacked in 1940. But if you understand how incredibly hard the French Army fought during WW1, it's easier to understand, and easier to forgive. The mettle of the French Soldier was tested more thoroughly during this conflict, than about any other nation has ever been so tested.

At the end of the Movie Tom Hanks shakes hands with the real Jim Lovell (an older guy wearing a White Cap). Jim Lovell is still with us and is in his 90's. Sadly, Marilyn Lovell passed away last year. Jim Lovell's Mom is played by Ron Howard's Mother. The bald, geeky looking Technician wearing glasses in the Houston Control Room is played by Clint Howard. I remember watching the coverage of Apollo 13. It was a real nail biter. We really didn't know if they would make it home or not. This has been called the "Miracle Mission". If Ken Mattingly hadn't been left behind, he would not have been able to work out the Procedure in the Simulator that brought them home.

I so love this series, and as a Melbournian this episode is always a favourite. Loving your reactions. Fun fact: with an Aussie accent Melbourne is pronounced "Mel-bn" 2 syllables, the first is pronounced just like Mel Brooks or Mel Gibson, the second is just like "bin" but without the "i" Another fun fact: since before WWII, Melbourne has been home to the largest Greek community in the world outside of Greece itself. And another fun fact: the traditional name of the Melbourne area is Naarm, and was home to 3 different language groups of the Aboriginal Kulin Nation for around 40,000 years. The name Naarm has become more frequently used alongside or in place of Melbourne over the last couple of decades

You are somewhere unbearably hot It rains, constantly. Now by rains, I mean an absolute load, it pours down constantly. The rain is also warm. Your only shelter is a relatively thin tent which isn't very good at protecting from the constant, constant wet everywhere Your drier clothes are still sodden through The noise of the rain makes it extremely difficult, if not impossible to sleep You have been in combat recently, or are in an area where the enemy is expected to have retreated from - but cannot be certain, because they're crafty guerilla fighters Your own officer(s) took something from you which was a legitimate (?) combat souvenir (the trunk, the pistol more importantly as an officer's sidearm is a prize) No wonder Leckie was absolutely done - but I think seeing the other guys in the hospital put his own problems in context, maybe helped him square himself away (at the time)

I have a recommendation for ya... If you like the original Matrix and the first John wick... Try out Monkey Man by Dev Patel. It starts out shaky for a reason. The second half really turns it up. And the end is phenomenal. If you want, check out the trailer first if you haven't seen it. But I recommend going in blind. If anyone else here has seen it, please chime in.

Great review Toni and David!! The Pacific will seem a bit darker or shows more of the Marines suffering from combat fatigue or even PTSD. One reason for this was Band of Brothers, Easy Company, their length of combat was about 11 months. By this time in the war for the First Marine division they had been battling off and on from 1942 to 1943. Of course, this is not demeaning the guys of Easy Company, but battle fatigue was very different based on the theater of combat. Some of the accounts from the campaigns in Italy are very different from those from D-Day to VE Day. Then add in that Japanese soldiers rarely surrendered. This, Pacific will seem darker or more sullen than Band of Brothers. I've seen a number of people bring this up in previous reviews and have criticized Pacific for this. But this was how it was, unfortunately. Just imagine the Battle of the bulge lasting 5 months, that was how Guadalcanal was. So just wanted to make you aware that it seems darker, but that is because of the reality of it. Looking forward to seeing more!!! Love the channel.

It's also more grim and gritty because of the perspectives. While most of BoB came from Winters perspective, the sources here were from the perspectives of a Sergeant and 2 Privates. The officers perspective, while very much a front line officer, provide a broader view and a slight distancing than the grunts. Combine that the above points and it's a much more claustrophobic and horrific story.

28:00 “Every three years” - nope, not possible. Your rotation doesn’t come up until at least FOUR years.
